A Small Piece of Pahadi Raga Played by Sablu Mukesh
Dear Friends, I am taking a little break in between my singing journey by presenting my small piece of flute tune. I am interestingly dedicating this blog and tune to my dear Friend and Sulekhitas, Dr. Narasinha Kamath, as all of you know he is a proficient musician. He is very much fond of rendering and listening to Pahadi Raga. We all Sulekhitas have been enjoying his soothing tunes on flute and other musical instruments on various ragas apart from the paramount coverage on the raga’s details and also his soulful bhajans and film’s songs too. I also considered him as my flute Guru for teaching me some complicated techniques in playing flute.
Apart from singing and playing Guitar, Flute is also my favorite musical instrument. I, very first time taking this privilege to render flute tune.
I have rendered a small piece of flute tune of an awesome and immortal song Kora Kagaz Tha Ye Man Mera based on Pahadi Raga. This duet song became one of the most popular hits in the year 1969 from film Aradhana, which was very beautifully sung by Kishore Da and Lata-ji and so was beautifully picturized in the film on actors, Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore. I considered this number as one of my most favorite duets and love to play this song on flute.
Small Description on Pahadi Raga:
This is my most favorite raga and I love all the songs based on Pahadi Raga. In fact, this the base and most melodious raga which is mostly played on flute and was very key in helping our brilliant composers to compose film’s songs based on Raga Pahadi.
To play this tune on flute on the high mountain’s areas, dense forest places, near oceans and peaceful environment in gardens are very awesome. Our beloved Music Directors like S.D. Burman, R.D. Burman, Khaiyyam, Roshan were lovers of this particular raga and had composed very awesome songs based on this raga. Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasiya a maestro of Flute and Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma of Santoor love this particular raga very much and have rendered many melodious tunes. I find this raga very melodious and soothing to listening and rendering too. I am also depicting the following list of some of my most favorite songs based on Pahadi Raga based on the music composers and films:

Dear Gopal Sir,
Thanks a billion to you for your very beautiful and appreciative comment and also for recommending my blog too. I was eagerly expecting your kind words which ultimately I got it today and with this feedback from a great artist my blog is accomplished.
I am very glad to see you after a gap in my blog and soulfully appreciate your greatness for inspiring me a lot. Actually, I played flute after a long gap and fortunately the tune came nice. You have asked very interesting question about rendering song along with a flute tune. I wish to do that but I have to pre-record first flute tune then later post-recording of my voice. This is your excellent idea.
By the way, I am puzzled about the bottom words gurumukh courtesy Sara, no offence intended. Gopal Sir, ye Sara apke comment mein? Interesting to read it (simply joking sir).
Sara is also my very good friend.
Regards,
Mukesh

Hi Sablu,
That was a sweet piece on the flute and I liked it very much. It was smooth and flawless.
I would like to ask you one thing. When you sang beautifully earlier you played guitar too. So, why didn't you sing when you changed from guitar to flute? Your voice and flute would have combined beautifully.
cheers
vs gurmukh (courtesy Sara)

Dear Dileep-ji,
Thanks a ton to you for your very lovely and outstanding feedback. I love to read it.
I am very much inspired by you from the beginning onwards by knowing your deep interest and marvellous knowledge in the field of music and also I feel pride in your musical skills, a person who himself is a very senior and a proficient musician. Wish someday, I get opportunity to listen live program of yours. I have immense pleasure to know that you liked my flute rendition
It’s wonderful co-incidence that Baharoon Mera Jeevan Bhi Sawaroon is also my most favorite song too of raga pahadi and what a brilliant effort Khaiyyam Sahab gave in this brilliant music of piece. I salute your high taste for music. This is really a fabulous song of Lata-ji which is an ultimate number if it scores for raga pahadi. The specialty in this song is a melodious appeal of raga pahadi and BGM on flute was rendered by our maestro Hariprasad Chaurasiya and on santoor by Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma and eventually our most sweetest and melodious Lata-ji along with brilliant compostion of Khaiyyam. So these concerted efforts brought this song so melodious.
Nice to know about Rajesh Khanna and so your prediction was a quite fact.
Thanks once again to you Dileep-ji for your lovely comment which made my day.
I will definitely keep on posting my musical renditions.
Regards,
Mukesh

Dear Sabluji,
Aap ki tarif jitni karoon woh kam hai.
You were just superb.I loved the way you rendered this no in raag Pahadi. My favorite Song in this raaga is however `Baharon Mera Jeevan Bhi sanwaro` from Akhari khat. I cant forget this song because this was the first film of Rajesh Khanna. After seeing the movie I had said to my friend that this hero(Rajesh) will go a long way. After few days of this movie I left for new zealand in the year 1969. In those days there was hardly any comunication so for four years I hardly was in touch with the movie field in India. But when I returned Rajesh Khanna was a big name in four years. I had not forgotten this movie because I was playing this song very often. Ye vaadiyan ye fijayen & the song from Taj Mahal is also top songs in this raga. Pahadi Raga sounds so good because this is commonly played by the sheep grazers in the villages. In our himalaya hills this is very common and sung very frequently by our village folks.
You must keep playing Flute,I think you are very good.

Dear Dr Kamath Sir,
Bahut bahut dhanyabad aapko. Thanks a ton to you for your appreciative word and your kind observation pertaining to my flute rendition. I am very glad you liked my flute tune. In fact, I am not a proficient flute player like you and I require a lot of practice for perfection. I simply played this beautiful song on my flute based on Pahadi raga which is my very favorite raga and I always love to render this raga on flute. Mostly I concentrate on guitar and singing. Flute is also my one of the favorite musical instruments so sometime I love to play it. I played this time after a long gap say after 7-8 months and that too without any practice. But thank God the tune came somehow good which you all liked it. Anyway I will try to render sometime with more perfection. Thanks for your kind suggestions.
Regards,
Mukesh
